Vladimir Zhirinovsky | Ultra-Nationalist, Anti-American & Dangerous.
Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky is a Russian politician, deputy and vice-chairman of the State Duma (the Russian parliament), and a lawyer. Zhirinovsky is (also) the founder and the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), the third largest party in the Duma. He is also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. (Wikipedia).
Zhirinovsky is an ultra-nationalist, viciously anti-American and tremendously dangerous. Once thought to have been marginalized from the core political process, he still wields power and influence and, in a world increasingly antagonized by the perceived imperialism of the United States, he is someone to be watched and taken deadly seriously.
Of course his political rhetoric becomes all the most flamboyant when mixed with a healthy dose of Vodka, as the video from a trip to Iraq (pre-invasion) in 2002 testifies:
He remains very much in the headlines in Russia – as he continues his nationalist imperative for a strong and aggressive Russia. His recent remarks on the upcoming 2008 presidential elections support the notion that Russia is retreating from democracy at a fast and furious pace. Of course it needs to be said that democracy appears to have done little for the average Russian citizen beyond a rush towards mafia-style corruption, the public squandering of nationalized industries and the inclusion of the American-value system (McDonalds, Starbucks and Crack) on the social infrastructure.
In contrast, Putin’s Russia has stepped back from the chaos of freedom (mild sarcasm here) and Russia has sacrificed its civil liberties for a booming economy, its freedom of press for improved living standards, western democracy for a increasing dictatorial regime manufactured in the image of a lovingly remembered Soviet sphere of influence in world affairs.
(see post : ‘Russia | Five Reasons to be Very Concerned‘)
Yes, we must remember to show our gratitude to Mr. Putin, and his nominated successor(s) as and when announced.

Just because someone is ‘Anti-american’, does not infer that individual is necessarily dangerous. In-fact the very real (and not perceived) american imperialist drive to create global totalitarianism, run by america of course, is the real danger facing the rest of the planet. Everyone knows this.
