Fox News | Silence on Iraq Means …?
You know the war in Iraq is so far beyond recovery and success when the Bush Administration’s cable news mouthpiece, Fox News, shuns any mention of said war in favor of:
- Paris Hilton <link>
- immigration reform so out of whack with reality as to emphasize the absurdity of Bush’s “Conversative” values and the far-left’s betrayal of America’s future <link>
- less-than-relevant and still-wholly-premature 2008 primary candidate posturing <link>
- war of words from who-gives-a-crap Rather and CBS’s Moonves over light-weight Couric on a media platform that is dying the death of a thousand paper cuts <link>
- supposed Jon Bonnet-Ramsey killer confessions from 1996 murder <link>
- more crap about Anna-Nicole Smith, her baby daughter and bloody Larry Nice-Guy Birkhead <link>
The Project for Excellence in Journalism reports Fox News has reported significantly less than CNN or MSNBC on the conflict in Iraq. Those pundits that once asked why the mainstream media failed to mention the ‘good news in Iraq’ have decided to take the Fifth. Hell, even Ann “Magificent Success” Coulter refuses to be drawn into the Iraq discussion in favor of her unique brand of Bush-bashing.
The PEJ reports, “The three cable news channels have been distinct from one another in the news they choose to cover. Fox News has devoted less time to the war in Iraq, for instance, and attached itself a good deal more to the death of Anna Nicole Smith. CNN was more of a mix, standing out primarily for a greater focus on immigration. MSNBC’s mix of stories suggests an inside-the-Beltway agenda.”
So it’s Anna Nicole Smith or immigration or Beltway politics. Excellent.
I know this is crass, so please forgive my joining the pack of ‘rub your nose in it’ stats junkies but this chart put’s the problem into perspective. Or for those that don’t have the time or patience to click through, …
- 3,791 deaths as of end of day, June 12 2007
- 25,830 wounded - same period.
For those that ask for a solution, I don’t have one to give, but more of the same does not work any longer. That argument just doesn’t cut it any more. Our troops, our nation and the innocent Iraqis deserve far more than this.
Shame on our news networks for not keeping the pressure on the story that is a failed and miserable Bush Administration and their refusal to change the strategy for winning the struggle against those that seek our destruction, wherever they may be located.
I used to watch Fox News as part of my balanced news coverage diet regiment - but no longer. It seems to be make me nauseant.
